A vision of Britain from 1801 to now.
Including maps, statistical trends and historical descriptions.
A: Our system is based on longitude/latitude co-ordinates in the Lambert Conformal Conic Projection, not the Ordnance Survey British National Grid system, as it is designed to cover the whole of Europe. If we used OSGB coordinates, we could not cover even the whole UK, as the Ordnance Survey system does not cover Northern Ireland. More generally, it is not possible to correctly represent large areas of the Earth's surface, such as a continent, in two-dimensions on paper without tilting some parts of the map. The map projection we use is not "wrong", it is just slightly different from the one most people in Britain are used to.
