Mountmellick, market town and township, Ardea and Rosenallis pars., N. Queen's co., on branch of Grand Canal and Owenass rivulet, 6 miles W. of Portarlington and 6 miles NW. of Maryborough, 560 ac., pop. 3126; P.O., T.O., 2 Banks. Market-days, Wednesday and Saturday. It has a woollen factory, a brewery, a tannery, and a tobacco manufactory, and in point of trade is the most important town in the county.
