Soar, river, midlands of England; rises on E. border of Warwickshire, and flows NE. and NW. past Whetstone, Leicester, Wanslip, Mountsorrel, Loughborough, Normanton, and Kegworth to the Trent, 12 miles SE. of Derby; is 40 miles long; in parts of the lower reaches its course has been shortened by artificial cuts to facilitate navigation.
