HAMBLE (THE), a stream of Hants. It rises near Bishops Waltham; and runs about 11 miles south-southwestward, past Betley and Burlesdon, to Southampton water at Hamble-le-Rice. Its lower reach, from Betley downward, is estuarial and navigable; and has, to a considerable extent, pleasantly wooded shores.
