1880 General Election: Liberal landslide

William Gladstone had fought the Midlothian by-election in 1879 on foreign policy issues, and he re-played that campaign in 1880. Following the strong Liberal victory, their leaders stood aside for Gladstone to again become Prime Minister at the age of 71.
