1892 General Election: Liberal minority government formed

The Conservatives won the most seats, but not an overall majority. Gladstone formed a minority Liberal government, the Irish Nationalists holding the balance of power. The Independent Labour party won three seats, but the origins of the modern Labour Party lay in the thirteen Liberal MPs elected with trade union backing, the so-called "Lib-Labs".
