A vision of Britain from 1801 to now.
Including maps, statistical trends and historical descriptions.
The largest single set of tables in each census report contains data for the individual parishes. In most cases, the information is limited to the number of men and women, and the number of houses, although the pre-1851 reports included limited occupational information, especially in 1831. These tables are important as a record of the administrative hierarchy, and source of unit names, as well as for the statistics they contain. The tables for 1871 and earlier include many sub-parish units, such as townships and chapelries, and some areas lacking clear legal status. We are constructing a comprehensive collection of datasets containing these tables. Tables for 1851 and earlier which cover the whole of Great Britain are in the section on England and Wales.
