In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Longformacus like this:
Longformacus, par. and vil., Berwickshire - par., 19,532 ac., pop. 385; vil., on Dye Water, 6½ miles NW. of Duns; P.O.; is a resort of anglers; in vicinity is Longformacus House, seat.
