In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Borough like this:
BOROUGH-ROAD, a subdistrict in the district of St. George-Southwark; extending northward from the Borough road to Mint street, in Southwark. Acres, 65. Pop., 16,668. Houses, 2,092.
The location is that of the name "The Borough" on modern 1:25,000 maps.
