In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Maidenwell like this:
MAIDENWELL, a hamlet in Farforth parish, Lincoln; 5 ½ miles S of Louth. Pop., 59. Maidenwell House, a neat and picturesque mansion, is the seat of G. H. Browne, Esq. The hamlet was formerly a parish; and it still ranks as a vicarage, annexed to the rectory of Buckland, in the diocese of Lincoln.
