In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Dolforwyn like this:
DOLFORWYN, or Dolevowin, a township in Bettws parish, Montgomery; on the river Severn, 3 miles NE of Newtown. Pop., 234. Here are remains of a castle, built, about 1065, by Bleddyn ab Cynfyn, and given to the Mortimers. The place is associated with the legend of Hafren or Sabrina, alluded to in "Milton's Comus. "
