In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Pallard like this:
Pallard, hamlet, 4 mile N. of Hartland, Devon; a stream is here crossed by Pallard Bridge, and to the N., on the road to Hartland Point, is Pallard Cross, an ancient wayside cross.
