In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Northcourt like this:

NORTHCOTT, or Northcourt, a hamlet in Abingdon, St. Helen parish, Berks; 1 mile N of Abingdon. Real property, £806. Pop., 290. Houses, 20. The Abingdon workhouse is here; and, at the census of 1861, bad 191 inmates.
