In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Gasthorpe like this:
GASTHORPE, a parish in Guiltcross district, Norfolk; on the river Waveney, at the boundary with Suffolk, 4¾ miles S of Harling-Road r. station, and 7½ E by S of Thetford. Post town, Garboldisham, under Thetford. Acres, 864. Real property, £685. Pop., 87. Houses, 18. The property is all in one estate. The living is a rectory, annexed to the rectory of Riddlesworth, in the diocese of Norwich. There is no church.
