In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Ballybough like this:

Ballybough, vil., Clonturk par., in co. and near Dublin, on river B. The river rises in SE. of co. Meath, and runs 15 miles ESE. to Dublin Bay.
