In 1837, Samuel Lewis's Topographical Dictionary of Ireland described Fertiana like this:
FERTIANA, a parish, in the barony of ELIOGARTY, county of TIPPERARY, and province of MUNSTER, 2 miles (S.) from Thurles; containing 1168 inhabitants. This parish comprises 3397 statute acres, as applotted under the tithe act, and valued at £2700 per ann. It is a rectory, in the diocese of Cashel, and forms part of the mensal of the Archbishop; the tithes amount to £184. 12. 3 ¾.
