In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Ennistimon like this:
Ennistimon, small town, Kilmanaheen par., W. co. Clare, on river Inagh, 14 miles NW. of Ennis ry. sta., pop. 1331; P.O., T.O., 2 Banks. Market-day, Saturday. It has some woollen mfrs.
