In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Dunmore like this:
Dunmore, East, fishing vil., Killea par., in co. and 8 miles SE. of Waterford, pop. 345; P.O., T.O. On the pier head, at W. side of entrance, is a lighthouse, with fixed light (Waterford) seen 5 miles.
