An alien black priory was founded here in the time of Henry II.; was given, by Henry VI., to Eton College; and has left some vestiges. The living is a vicarage and a rectory in the diocese of Norwich. Value, £300. Patron, Eton College. The church is early English. There are a Primitive Methodist chapel, an endowed school with £32 a year, and charities £90.
