Footnote on Table 3 of the Roxburgh County Report: 'The parish of Teviothead has been separately returned as such since the Census of 1851. In 1898, by Order of the Secretary for Scotland, the portions of the Parishes of Hawick and Cavers comprising it were entirely disjoined from the said parishes and formed into a separate parish, called the parish of Teviothead.'
