Stonehouse never had its own Development Corporation. According to South Lanarkshire Archives, "When Stonehouse was designated a New Town, East Kilbride Dev Corp was re-named East Kilbride & Stonehouse Dev Corp due to the close proximity of East Kilbride to Stonehouse and the expertise in New Town development already available. The name reverted in 1977. A lot of work was carried out at the planning stage and a small amount of development took place at Stonehouse. " (E-mail from Phyllis Gaffney, 4/3/2010)
