The SCAN gazetteer described this parish as resulting from a merger between Arbroath and St. Vigeans in 1919, but it is listed as a single unit in the 1911 Census of Population. Further Table 3 of volume I in 1911 has a footnote which says the two parishes of Arbroath and St Vigeans were united in 1895.
