Notes:

1. This table holds information for all Council Areas in Scotland, plus national totals which are the exact sums of the council area-level data.
2. This table resembles the workplace-based 2011 data for England and Wales in that it provides no breakdown by gender, but further simplifies the industrial classification by
   • Providing no breakdown of the manufacturing sector.
   • Merging SIC2007 Sections R, S, T and U. This is a smaller problem, as the England and Wales table merges R and S, and T and U are both very small today. Note, however, that T is more important historically as it covers domestic service.
3. Notes on the original table say:
   • [The data cover] All people aged 16 to 74 in employment in the area the week before the census.
   • Includes also residents of England, Wales and Northern Ireland aged 16 and over working in Scotland. Excludes residents of Scotland working outside Scotland or on offshore installations.
   • People who work mainly at or from home, or who have no fixed place of work, are included in the area of their usual residence.
